I provide STEP & MAT tuition for students applying to top universities.
I provide exclusive tips on how to prepare for STEP once a week. I discuss the most important things to prepare, how to create a good plan and keep on track and also provide you with motivation to help you ace your STEP exams.
Through the one-to-one STEP sessions I offer, I'll provide you with the best support to make sure you are ready and confident to perform in your STEP exams. No matter where you are now, I'll guide you one the journey to good STEP performance.
Together we will create a personal STEP programme for you to make sure you are prepared for the exams in June. This will help you manage your time effectively and make sure you cover all the right questions before your exams.
I help motivated students, no matter what their background or financial availablity is. I believe that everyone should have access to educational resources online. If you are struggling to find support and cannot afford it, please contact me.
I am Joshua Snyder, a private tutor who helps students applying for mathematics at the top universities with their STEP & MAT preparation. I am passionate about tutoring because I find joy in teaching others the things I love. It was my teachers that influenced my enjoyment of maths and I hope to do the same for my students.
I teach with two goals. Firstly I want to provide my students with the extra help they need to have a good education, because supporting students means investing in the future generation. Secondly, and very importantly, I teach to inspire others. I try to show my students just how captivating and interesting mathematics can be. It is very rare that a student with little or no interest will succeed at a high level; motivating students and showing them a world of interesting problems to be explored is the most important part of my tuition.
Sessions will last either 1 or 2 hours and take place via Zoom. Throughout the week I set my students a STEP paper to complete and we work together through the problems in the session.
I'll guide you through the problems, helping you to figure out the solutions as we go along, which makes you more prepared and confident for the papers. I also provide you with the best tips for performing well in STEP papers and managing your time during the exam to get the best score.
Yes! All new students will have a 30 minute consultation free of charge. During the consultation session, I will discuss with students their needs, understand their current level and answer any questions you have about our STEP sessions.
I like my students to know a bit about my personal interests and life. This is because in tutoring it is important to build an understanding between the tutor and student. Our interests effect the kind of work we do, what we enjoy and what motivates us. I include this information so that students can get to know a bit more about me.
My main interests include maths, but also philosophy and theology. Learning about philosophy makes me interested in mathematical logic and it's applications to popular philosophical arguments. I am interested in people's 'life philosophy' and how that changes their behaviour and understanding of morality.
Whilst I am not learning or tutoring, I spend time travelling to learn about other cultures and languages. More than being good fun, I see this as a valuable education in understanding people from different backgrounds.
I graduated from the Part III Mathematics masters at Cambridge with a final grade of 92%. I have since started a software company using the experience that I gained during my time at Cambridge.
I studied my bachelor in mathematics at St. John's College, Cambridge. During my time there I went on exchanges to Shanghai University and Nagoya University.
I was awarded a scholarship to study at QE in York, studying A-Levels in Maths, Further Maths and Chemistry, achieving A*A*A. I also took STEP 1,2 and 3, achieving S11.
Studying mathematics for four years at Cambridge University gave me experience in the style and demand of high-level universities. I have valuable experience of the supervision system which is used at Oxbridge and creates an environment for students to show their passion and interest when faced with challenging problems.
I implement the style of supervisions in the lessons I teach. I offer high achieving students extra problems that push their knowledge of the subject. The reason for this is that if students can grasp problems of a more difficult standard then they expect to be tested on, it makes them feel more comfortable for the tests they need to take. In mathematics, being comfortable with the underlying concepts a problem involves provides a much better education then the wrote learning style taught to students at school. Students learn the most when they struggle on a problem and have to wrestle with it to understand the core ideas it presents. This idea is at the heart of the style in which I tutor my students.
"Since taking STEP classes with Joshua I feel so much more prepared! I was feeling really nervous about my STEP exams when we started, but together with Joshua I have created a plan to get me through the process and I'm feeling much more confident."
